What are Latex Foam Mattresses?
Memory Foam FAQs, memory foam May 20th. 2008, 2:43pmCombining the luxury and comfort of a memory foam mattress with the economy and build quality of a traditional mattress, we take a look at latex foam mattresses and give you the lowdown.
The latex used in latex foam mattresses is a natural, biodegradable product that is derived from the rubber tree. Like memory foam, latex foam mattresses are ‘breathable’ in that they keep you cool in summer and retain heat in winter. They are also hypoallergenic and resistant to bacteria, mildew and mould – so a latex foam mattress is perfect if you suffer from allergies.
Consumer tests have found latex foam to be up to three times more resistance to dust mites than standard spring mattresses, and are also hard wearing – some high end latex foam mattresses were found to last for years on end.
Often described as the Rolls Royce of mattresses, latex foam mattresses don’t need to be turned or flipped as they hold their shape and ‘memory’ function far better than standard spring mattresses.
If you are planning to buy a new latex foam mattress, be sure to check that they include a removable cover (most do these days). The standard thickness for latex foam is 6”. Anything less than that and you will probably be buying an inferior latex foam product.
Of course, as with memory foam, many different latex foam mattresses and toppers are available to suit your budget and requirements.
