Making a Comparison
Memory Foam FAQs, memory foam mattress June 20th. 2008, 9:20amOnce you’ve found a few mattresses at prices that you’re happy with, you need to decide which is best, but if they all seem pretty similar it’s time to carry out a memory foam mattress comparison. Since sleep is so important for everyone’s wellbeing lots of companies have taken up the challenge to make the best memory foam mattress. Comparison criteria between brands are often biased though, so the suggestions below hint at where to find help making your decision.
One of the most important characteristics of a memory foam mattress is foam depth. This can vary hugely (see our 12cm thick, double foam mattress), and has a considerable effect on how the mattress feels to sleep on. It’s generally agreed that you need at least 5cm of memory foam to feel the benefit, and above this the deeper the foam the firmer the mattress.
Related to the depth of the memory foam is the density. The denser the foam the better quality it is because the cells are closer together and the mattress will maintain its shape much longer. 60kg/m is the ideal density but watch out for manufacturers changing the units they measure in.
What about a combination mattress with memory foam and springs? This can offer the best of both worlds depending on what you are looking for in a mattress. Springs naturally make a mattress bouncier so if you want the benefits of a thick layer of memory foam but still like to have a flexible mattress the spring-foam combo could be for you.
Another important aspect of a memory foam mattress comparison is the mattress cover. This can be the final factor that decides whether you find your new mattress blissfully comfortable or not. A memory foam mattress cover should be soft and stretchy so as not to get in the way of the melting memory foam feeling. Getting a cover that keeps your temperature consistent is worth the effort too, although you don’t need to worry at Memory Foam Mattress Direct since all our mattresses come with a free Coolmax cover.
Now you have the basic tools you need to make a considered memory foam mattress comparison, all that’s left is to buy it and start getting the great sleep you deserve.
