Whilst memory foam mattresses are a relatively new technology, sleeping habits is an area that has been studied in great depth over a number of years.

It is common knowledge that getting an good nights sleep on your memory foam mattress is important for both your physical and mental health. The stumbling block is putting tat theory into practice – what can we actually do to improve our sleeping habits? Here at Memory Foam Mattress Direct, we’ll show you how to establish a good sleep routine of your own.

• Keep it regular – Adults, as well as children need a regular bedtime – which you should aim to stick to the majority of the time. This has many benefits, not least that your body gets conditioned to prepare for sleep at the same time every night – so you’ll find it easier to fall to sleep as soon as your head touches the memory foam pillow. Unless it’s really unavoidable, you should aim to go to bed at roughly the same time every day.

• Food and drink – You should aim to eat your evening meal at least a couple of hours before you go to bed. Eating and drinking too much before your bedtime will generally make it harder for you to fall sleep and stay asleep. It might go against the old wives tale, but alcohol and caffeine are definite no-no’s before bed as they stimulate the brain – making it harder to switch off.

• TVs and Gadgets – Many people now have televisions, computers and stereos in their bedroom. Whilst we all like to snuggle up in our memory foam bed and watch a movie, scientists believe that watching movies or using a computer right before we go to sleep could lead to more night time awakenings (i.e. a poorer quality of sleep). Leaving electrical items on standby could also be interfering with our sleep.
