We think memory foam is great – so it got us thinking about how we can really challenge it.

We’ve all had the experience of a bad night’s sleep, and pretty much all of us have had the experience of a bad night’s sleep caused by a partner. Whether it’s tossing and turning, getting too hot, stealing the entire duvet, or snoring, sleeping in the same bed as someone who fidgets during the night is a complete pain. More and more couples are resorting to the very fifties solution of sleeping in separate beds, although we wouldn’t recommend it as it can bring as many problems as it solves: you’ll need more space, another bed, more bed linen…the list goes on. And, of course, you get to miss out on the most important night-time activity of all.

Yes, arguing over whose turn it is to put out the light.

Partners can also suffer from a bad night’s sleep if they are particularly different in height or weight, as well as sleeping and lifestyle habits. Uneven distribution across a regular open spring or pocket spring mattress can damage the springs themselves and means that, when you come to turn the mattress, neither or you will be able to find a comfortable sleeping position.

So what’s the solution? Really, you need to find a bed that can accommodate both of you without either of you being uncomfortable. For height differences, make sure the bed is long enough for both of you to sleep comfortable, and opting for a memory foam mattress will also iron out any problems with weight difference as the foam moulds to each unique body shape for all over support. We think that a memory foam mattress can be the cure to all ills in this department, and there’s many a celebrity couple who would benefit from a soothing night’s sleep – despite their differences.

Musician Jamie Cullum and author’s daughter model-turned-chef Sophie Dahl rocked the boat a little when they embarked on their relationship in 2010, with Sophie’s stature and seductive curves contrasting sharply with the dinky piano-tinkler Jamie. But we are assured (probably) that their continuing success in love has been aided by a comfortable night’s sleep, despite their height difference. And if Jamie really can’t nod off, at least Sophie could make him up a little bed with one of the pillowcases.

A similar difference in height was noticeable between Tom Cruise, Scientology poster boy, and the flame-haired Nicole Kidman during their relationship.

Famously quipping ‘now I can wear heels’ when asked to comment on their breakup, their marriage may have been saved by a supportive bed that could accommodate their size difference and allow both to get a relaxing, de-stressing night’s sleep. Actually, that’s unlikely: with Cruise being the sofa-jumping chap he is, he’s probably happier with Katie.

However, the couple that really don’t seem to let their differences get between them must be basketball player Shaquille O’Neal and his new lady, reality TV show star Nicole Alex ander. Sounds simple enough, right? But at 7’1” and 5’2” respectively this couple can barely hear each other when they speak, let alone trying to work out how to have a comfortable night’s sleep.

Aside from having a made-to-measure bed, we’d recommend that Shaquille and Nicole definitely invest in a luxurious memory foam mattress to help counteract their super-size difference! As well as helping Shaquille’s aches and pains that he might suffer from all that sporting action, a memory foam mattress will mean that Nicole won’t get flung in the air every time basketball’s big boy shifts his position.

Shock waves and movement are absorbed by the memory foam mattress as each partner can find their unique sleeping position – ensuring a long and happy relationship for all involved.

There are many different types of mattresses available to buy but it is widely accepted that to experience the best night’s sleep, memory foam is the best option. Two types of mattresses that are commonly purchased are traditional coil spring mattresses and memory foam mattresses. Many consumers feel that the benefits of the memory foam mattress significantly outweigh those of the coil spring mattress.

The composition of a memory foam mattress sets it apart from a coil spring mattress as it allows the mattress to last for many years. Typically, memory foam mattresses have a significantly long lifespan, allowing you to experience a quality night’s sleep for many years. Buying a memory foam mattress from memory foam mattress direct allows you to be safe in the knowledge that your product is guaranteed for five years. As the foam is UK manufactured and of superior quality, you can rest assured that your memory foam mattress will have a long lifespan.

The unique qualities of a memory foam mattress provide users with benefits that have never been accomplished by sleeping on coil spring mattresses. Memory foam mattresses have the ability to adjust to a person’s body temperature. Typically, a person’s body temperature varies throughout the length of their body, as certain zones are warmer than others. Memory foam mattresses are able to detect these variations and respond to them by adjusting the support needed. The warmer that an area of your body is, the softer the memory foam mattress becomes. A traditional coil-spring mattress simply does not have the technology to provide you with such a comfortable night’s sleep. The fact that memory foam mattresses respond directly to your body temperature and weight puts memory foam light-years ahead of coil spring mattress technology.

The memory foam material, originally designed by NASA, was created to help astronauts withstand high pressure exerted by the gravitational forces that were present upon a space shuttle’s take-off. Memory foam is able to provide support for a person’s entire body. Conversely, a coil spring mattress, just merely pushes back on your body. This may cause pressure points for some sleepers, these pressure points can often result in a night of tossing and turning. Of course, the sleeper doesn’t get the best night sleep possible. Memory foam mattresses contour to your body and eliminate these sleep negating pressure points from even happening.

Sleep is one very essential requirement to achieve good health. Sleep may seem like an automatic activity but in reality sleep it does not come quickly. Every night when we sleep in our beds, we essentially undergo five different stages of sleep.

The first stage occurs in the first 5 to 10 minutes of sleep. At this stage, one keeps turning on the bed. The person is not totally asleep at this point so it will not be difficult to wake him or her.

The second stage is when the person is no longer conscious of his or her environment. Breathing and heart rate becomes regular and the body temperature lowers.

The 3rd and 4th stage are the deep sleep stage. At these stages, the body activities slows down. The last stage in the cycle is where the body experiences rapid eye movement also known as the REM stage.

To some, sleeping seems like a waste of time. So they cut short their sleeping hours to let’s say 4 or 5 hours. But sleep promotes one’s well-being and helps preserve good health. The brain needs respite from stress and daily activities. Sleep is the rejuvenating antidote it needs.

People who do not get enough sleep often manifest psychiatric and other health problems. Some people cope with insomnia, a sleeping disorder which prevents one from sleeping.

The amount of sleep a person is required to get daily depends on several factors such as age. Babies often require 15-16 hours of sleep. Young people requires 8-9 hours daily while adults from 7-8 hours of sleep.

Environment is a huge factor that affects sleep at night. This is the most basic requirement. A sleep-inducing environment is important. A good mattress, quiet surroundings, adequate room temperature and other environmental factors are essential to having a sound sleep.A memory foam mattress can be the perfect way to ensure that you get a quality night’s sleep as your body weight is evenly distributed across its surface.

People are also a factor in environment. Having people coming in and out of the room is very distracting and can affect sleeping patterns. If you need to sleep with someone in the room, you also need to consider if they prefer to have lights on or off while sleeping, if they snore or sleep early/late. These could potentially disturb one’s sleep. Possible barriers to sleep should be eradicated to ensure that one gets enough amount of sleeping time.

Memory foam mattresses have become one of the more popular types of mattress on the market today. Owners of memory foam mattresses extol their virtues and the total comfort that the mattress provides. For many, a memory foam mattress provides an unrivalled quality of sleep that cannot be found with a standard mattress. For many others, a memory foam mattress is purchased for medical reasons, to alleviate symptoms of various conditions that are exacerbated by an inadequate mattress. People who have medical conditions find that they can get a better night’s sleep on a memory foam mattress. One such condition that may have its pain relieved by a memory foam mattress is fibromyalgia.

People with fibromyalgia have pain in various parts of their body. When going to bed at night, this pain can often prevent them from obtaining a restful night of sleep. Traditional mattresses constructed of springs push back when you put your weight on the mattress. As a result, pressure points are formed. Those with fibromyalgia already have numerous extremely sensitive areas on their bodies and traditional mattresses merely serve to make this pain worse. Those suffering from fibromyalgia often have trouble getting a good night’s sleep.

Unlike traditional mattresses, memory foam mattresses do not have springs. This absence of springs completely relieves you of the issues caused by spring mattresses. The unique composition and design of memory foam mattresses allows the mattress to become slightly pliable when a person lies on it. The person’s body heat reacts with the memory foam mattress making it softer and able to easily conform to the person’s body. Since the mattress conforms to the body, weight is evenly distributed across the mattress. Therefore, pressure points normally experienced when sleeping on traditional mattresses are alleviated, this is particularly helpful for fibromyalgia patients, reducing the pain experienced during sleep.

Memory foam mattresses contour to your body. You find yourself experiencing a restful night’s sleep in the comfort of its soft material. For those who have experienced an injury or have any general aches or pains which are not quite as severe as fibromyalgia, a memory foam mattress can provide the necessary comfort to alleviate pain.

There are many products out there for those of us who find it difficult to sleep, or perhaps get to sleep easily but wake up not feeling refreshed and ready for the day, but rather groggy and ready to slump back in the mattress. One of those products is the memory foam mattress. The memory foam mattress is well known for curing aches and pains, and can give its users a fantastic night’s sleep. In order to aid your sleeping, there are a few extra things which can maximise a quality night’s sleep:

• Regular as Clockwork – Even adults need a regular bedtime, so the next time you’re sending the little rascals up to bed, have a little think about your own night-time routine. By going to sleep at the same, if not similar, time each night, you are training your body and normalising your sleep patterns. By doing this your body gets ready for sleep at the right time, and you should have no trouble drifting off and sleeping through to wake up refreshed.

•	Trappings of a modern world – Many of us stay awake in bed before going to sleep watching TV, playing on a laptop or even a games console. Studies show that by doing this you are more likely to wake up several times in the night, meaning you’ll feel like you haven’t had enough sleep in the morning.

• Singing for Supper – Eating meals too close to bedtime will make it much harder to get to sleep when it does come to it, and also much harder to stay asleep. The digestive system will carry on working when your body should be shutting down for rest. Alcohol and caffeine are another two substances which will have the same effect, as they fuel the brain making it difficult to switch off for sleep.

Sleeping soundly is important for all of us, no matter what age we are. Pivotal to our sleeping needs is a quality mattress. A memory foam mattress can offer you the perfect night’s sleep every night and as a result, you’ll feel refreshed and ready to go when you wake up in the morning!

What are pressure points and how can we avoid them? They can best be described as muscle pain with local spot tenderness in a tense band of muscle fibres that exhibits as a sharp point, a “pressure point”, when any kind of pressure (passive or active) is put on them. A lot of things can cause them: nutritional deficiencies, chronic infections, allergens, psychological stress, nerve entrapment, congenital skeletal abnormalities, muscle trauma sustained in accident or injury, the list goes on. Whatever their cause, they can be beyond annoyance for the average man or woman, and present a host of new problems for physicians, many of whom do not ascribe to their existence let alone have a method of treatment. However, if you have a pressure point, you will know it. Muscle function and referred nerve pathways are at the heart of these and in today’s medical world, they are recognised as a problem which affects a widespread group of people.

One of the crucial ways to alleviate the pain of pressure points is to consider looking towards improving your environment by getting a memory foam mattress. You sleep for a significant proportion of your day, on average this is one third of a 24 hour cycle and a bad mattress unquestionably can impact pressure points. In fact, ordinary mattresses, as they age, can develop permanent sags or weak areas that will cause your body to contort in a way which may actually make pressure points worse. If you suffer from these types of aches and pains, you need support across your whole body and an aging body needs all the rest you can give it, and proper support in the process.

A way to minimize pressure points you currently have and prevent causing new ones by sleeping is to purchase a memory foam mattress. These special mattresses are made from high-density foam that is specially tested and designed to support the sleeper. The technology has been around for over 30 years and improvements in the product have now made it a must-have for people with pressure point conditions who want relief. Being temperature sensitive, this material has an advantage, in that it can absorb heat and keep the sleeper’s body temperature even. Thermal considerations can affect pressure points (as evidenced by people whose pressure points are aggravated in colder weather, for example). The way the mattress material handles compression forces will also tell you how it will handle the force of your body’s compression. Even distribution is the key here, so the sleeper does not put any more pressure on pressure points but in fact reduces it. Memory foam mattresses are designed to prevent pressure points developing and helps to stop existing pressure points worsening.

You cannot underestimate the importance of having a good mattress. Consider this: if you spend even seven hours per night asleep, 365 days per year, that is 2,555 hours in one year alone on your mattress. Over 20 years, you’ve spent 51,100+ hours with your mattress. Your mattress has seen you through sleep cycles good and bad, and depending on its quality and your state of health, has assisted you by offering you comfort, given your body support while you sleep, and relief from the aches and pains of daily living. If you are good health, you might think that the fact that you can simply fall asleep is enough to rejuvenate you for the following day, however, unless you’ve felt the benefits of a memory foam mattress, you might not realise how much it could help even the healthiest, fittest person. Some people literally can sleep on anything. If your health is marginal, or even if you want to preserve your good health, the importance of your mattress really comes into play.

There is no question that good sleep is a critical factor in staying healthy. Fatigue, especially when induced by something in the environment, can begin to wear at the edges of even the soundest of immune systems. Allergy sufferers are one group of people who are directly affected by poor quality mattresses. A mattress which does not carry hypoallergenic qualities can aggravate allergies and conditions such as asthma and lead to even more exhaustion. Standard mattresses may be harbouring dust mites or other allergens causing your condition to be aggravated. As we age, good sleep and a healthy immune system are two weapons in our anti-aging arsenal.

Here in the UK we are used to opposing weather conditions, with very harsh winters and summers where occasional hot days can disrupt our sleeping patterns. During the winter months, many people will want to snuggle up in a nice warm bed whereas in the summer a warm bed is extremely undesirable and can result in a poor night’s sleep.

For a good night’s sleep all year round, a memory foam mattress is the perfect choice as it is adept at maintaining an even temperature no matter what the season. The open cell structure of a memory foam mattress gives it a breathable quality. Although foam is fundamentally an insulator and therefore maintains warmth, the memory foam we use is of high quality which allows air to flow through its open cells and ensures that temperature is kept even.

During the winter months we recommend a good quality memory foam mattress to ensure that temperature is evenly distributed. The mattress should be coupled with a warm duvet that has a high tog rating for maximum warmth.

During the summer months you’ll want your sleeping experience to be as comfortable and as cool as possible. The density of a high quality memory foam mattress ensures that your sleeping experience is comfortable as well as cool. To further ensure that you are cool enough during the summer months, we provide a Coolmax cover free of charge with all our memory foam mattresses. The Coolmax cover works by removing moisture away from your body, allowing for increased evaporation and subsequently this has a cooling effect.

The harsh temperatures of winter and particularly summer have a tendency to aggravate allergies for many people in the UK. A memory foam mattress is an excellent safeguard when it comes to preventing allergies; all of our mattresses are hypoallergenic and dust mite resistant, so those allergies will be kept at bay.

For an all-round good night’s sleep whatever the season, a memory foam mattress is the perfect choice.

Here at Memory Foam Mattress Direct, we provide information on a wide variety of sleep and memory foam subjects. Many of our customers are interested in the benefits of memory foam and tips on how to get a good night’s sleep, or reignite passion in the bedroom. In light of this, one of the more obscure questions we get asked is: “Can watching TV in bed affect your love life?”

The short answer is yes it can.

An Italian researcher believes he has uncovered the reason why some couples are at it like rabbits while others are lucky if they manage to have sex once a month.

After studying the sexual activity of 523 Italian couples, psychologist and sexologist Serenella Salomoni found that those who keep a TV in the bedroom have sex half as often as those who don’t.

The old adage about TV being a passion-killer certainly rings true according to this study. Couples without a TV in their room made love twice a week on average, whilst this figure halved to once a week for those who did have a ‘box’ in their bedroom.

If the Italian love-gods are struggling to perform when Big Brother is watching (or they are watching Big Brother), then what chance do British men have!

So ship out the TV, even if it’s just a temporary move to reignite the flames of desire! Check out our guide to sex on a memory foam mattress too. The article includes some useful tips on how to ensure that the best sleeping experience you’ve ever had is also conducive to mind-blowing love making.

Don’t forget we have a wide range of memory foam mattresses here at Memory Foam Mattress Direct, so check out our latest offers today.
